The 2nd Annual Meeting of Asia-Pacific Safeguards Network (APSN)

Asia Pacific Safeguards Network (APSN), for the second time was held in Indonesia, Wednesday (06/11/13). Indonesia through BAPETEN is one of the regional initiatives in developing Safeguards cooperation, especially in terms of human resource development and regional networks for the implementation of national infrastructure Safeguards, so that there is confidence that nuclear materials in the Asia Pacific region are used only for peaceful purposes.

BAPETEN Head As Natio Lasman, officially opened the event. In his speech, the BAPETEN Head said, as a member of the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty, Indonesia is fully committed to supporting transparency in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. In addition, Indonesia has also ratified the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty in 2012.

As a regional network to improve Safeguards capabilities, the existence of APSN is very important, especially for ASEAN member countries. The formation of APSN itself as a forum for countries in the Asia Pacific region, which reflects a shared commitment to the implementation of Safeguards, in the use of nuclear energy only for peaceful purposes.

Among the member countries that are members of APSN, they share knowledge and experience, as well as information about nuclear safeguards while also improving their Safeguards capabilities. This event was attended by 13 delegates from 16 member countries and IAEA representatives with a total of 29 participants. The APSN member countries include Indonesia, Australia, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Russia, Thailand, America, and Vietnam. Meanwhile, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Bangladesh are new APSN member countries.
