The 15th Annual Meeting of Asia Pacific Safeguards Network (APSN)

The 15th Asia Pacific Safeguards Network (APSN) annual meeting held on 5-6 November 2024 in Krabi, Thailand. This meeting is an annual forum attended by representatives of nuclear energy regulatory bodies in the Asia Pacific region which aims to be a forum for exchanging information and experiences in implementing nuclear safeguards. This year's APSN meeting was attended by 17 countries including Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Lao PDR, United States, Viet Nam, Palau, Mongolia, and the United Arab Emirates. In addition, this meeting was also attended by several representatives from organizations including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM). The meeting was opened by Deputy Secretary General of OAP, Thailand, Ms. Pennapa Kanchana, Deputy Director General (Safeguards) of IAEA, Mr. Massimo Aparo, Director of Non-Proliferation, Science and Nuclear Energy Division of MOFA, Japan, Mr. Naobumi Yokota, and Vice Governor of Krabi Province, Thailand, Mr. Suwit Suriyawong.

This year's meeting was celebrated specially because it commemorated the 15th APSN meeting. In addition, on this occasion, the launch of the new APSN website that has been built by Bapeten was also carried out through apsn.bapeten.go.id. On this occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between APSN and INMM to strengthen cooperation in the exchange of information in the field of nuclear technology. After the implementation of the APSN annual meeting, it was continued with the Seminar on Safeguards Implementation Strategy Development organized by the IAEA on November 7-8, 2024. In this seminar, information was exchanged on safeguards implementation experiences in several countries as well as discussions on best practices in safeguards implementation. It is hoped that with this series of activities, the implementation of safeguards in the Asia Pacific region can further develop.
